Unlocking Strength: Mobility & Power

Most people treat stretching like an afterthought.
Something you tack on at the end of a workout… or do when something feels tight.

But here’s the thing — mobility work isn’t just about feeling loose or flexible.
It’s one of the most effective ways to get stronger.

When Your Muscles Are “Tied Down”

Your body has over 600 muscles. But that doesn’t mean they’re all pulling their weight.

When certain muscles or joints get tight, they don’t just feel restricted — they stop contributing fully. It’s like having access to only part of your strength.

For example, if your hips are locked up, the muscles around your hips and glutes might only be working at 50% of what they could.
Not because they’re weak, but because they can’t move freely enough to do their job.

A Simple Way to Picture It

Imagine trying to walk quickly down the street…
but someone’s holding onto you with a rope.

You can still move, but not freely.
You can’t generate full power.

That’s what tightness does — it doesn’t just limit movement, it limits output.

The “Jeans Out of the Dryer” Test

You know how jeans feel right after you pull them out of the dryer?
Stiff. Tight. Restrictive.

Now imagine trying to run in them.
Even if you’re strong, you’re fighting against the fabric the whole time.

That’s what lack of mobility feels like. Your body’s capable — it’s just not able to move the way it’s supposed to.

What Happens When You Improve Mobility

When you take the time to:

  • release tight areas,

  • open up your joints, and

  • move the way your body was designed to —

something amazing happens.

Muscles that have been “asleep” start waking up again.
Suddenly, movements feel smoother, more powerful, more natural.

You haven’t built new strength yet — you’ve just unlocked what’s been there all along.

Why It Matters

I see this all the time in training. People work hard but only get halfway to their potential because they’re fighting their own restrictions.

That’s why mobility work is such a big focus in my programs. It’s not about becoming more “flexible” — it’s about helping your body move, activate, and perform the way it’s meant to.

When you move better, you lift better. You recover faster. You feel stronger.

The Big Takeaway

Strength isn’t only about adding more — more weight, more reps, more muscle.

Sometimes, it’s about unlocking what’s already there.
