Kathy Walters
Hi, my name is Kathryn Walters, or Kathy, and I am very happy to have you visiting this website and becoming acquainted with me.
I am a retired physician, Obstetrics and Gynecology being my field of work for 40+ years, and I have always been interested in all aspects of our health.
I was very overweight for many years but lost a little over 100 pounds about 23 years ago. But even when I was heavy, I participated in exercise groups because I knew the exercise would help me both physically and mentally.
In the early days of my medical practice, before becoming so busy delivering babies that I had very little free time, I took Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor training. I taught Mother Baby Swimming for a time and have also worked with older kids learning water safety and assisted with my daughter's swim team in high school. As I began to scale down my medical practice, I used some of my time taking Water Aerobics classes at the YMCA. After retirement and moving to the Cresswind Wesley Chapel 55+ community, I eagerly began taking all of the classes offered once the Amenities center and pool opened.
Never did I think I would see the day that I would turn myself into a pretzel and enjoy all of the yoga and aerobic exercise classes so much! My physical endurance and health has improved, and these classes help maintain my mental sanity as I care for my husband with Alzheimer's Disease.
The Water Aerobics or Aquafit classes are truly my favorite, and I was so excited to learn of the availability to get certified to teach these classes. It was fun getting a refresher course on anatomy and biomechanics of the body as I took the class, and I look forward to sharing some of these important facts with others in the classes.
When I am not in the pool or fitness classes, you can find me reading, cooking, and spending time with my 3 granddaughters. I volunteer at their school, and I am called on regularly to pick them up from school and take them to their softball games or to watch the 13 year old drive her racecar at the Motor speedway.
You will frequently see me driving them around the neighborhood on our golf cart or playing ball with them in the street. I do hope to one day be able to take these girls on some trips exploring various parts of the country and world.
I look forward to meeting many of you in some of the classes, and I hope we will be able to have fun and get fit together in the pool as well as the gym.
